2003 International Manufacturing (Mobile Phone) Complementary Procurement Fair and Forum News Conference was held at TEDA from 18-19 July 2003, by Tianjin Foreign Trade Commission, Tianjin Economics Commission and Administration Committee of TEDA.

The purpose of it was to promote the development of China mobile phone sector, and form up communication platform of mobile phone manufacturers and accessory suppliers, with the guidance concept: set up complementary platform, lower goods circulation costs, and promote enterprise cooperation.

The fair was held by Tianjin Foreign Trade Commission, Tianjin Economics Commission and Administration Committee of TEDA, with the support of the State Commerce Ministry, State Information Industry Ministry and Tianjin People’s Government. The co-sponsored units were: China Electronic Component Sector Association, China Electronic Component Network, Japan External Trade Organiation, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Beijing Office of Korea SBC, Alibaba (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd., Jinlian Network Development (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., which was organized by Trade Promotion Center of TEDA.

The fair attracted domestic and foreign 2,000 enterprises, 8,000 participants, 400 intentions reached for complementation. And, several enterprises expressed willing to invest at Tianjin.

The fair area was 3,000m2, with A and B exhibition halls, with 166 stands, and a meeting area of 200m2 for the participants. There were 151 exhibition companies, 30 from Tianjin, 111 from other places, 10 overseas ones, incl. 15 countries and regions, like Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, America, Taiwan, Malaysia, Germany, Britain, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Australia, Switzerland, etc.

There were 38 buyers at the fair, from Beijing, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Tianjin, etc., incl. 19 whole set manufacturers, 9 OEM, ODM, EMS, among whom, 13 enterprises set up 24 exhibit stands, intending to buy 200 kinds of goods. 23 whole mobile phone manufacturers participated the fair (4 of them purchased on-line), taking 62% of the whole, incl. Motorola, Sanyo, Samsung, Ericsson, Pansonic, LG, Legend, Shouxin, etc. 236 procurement and technical persons of various companies participated the fair. In addition, 2 large groups of telecommunication industry and 3 mobile phone goods circulation companies of China participated.

There were 138 accessory companies presented the fair, with 142 exhibit stands, from Beijing, Shanghai, Shandong, Jiangsu, Hebei, Liaoning, Guangdong, Henan, Fujian, Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Tianjin, etc. There were 10 complementary companies of Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, 2 general complementary companies of Tianjin Datian Group Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Kaitai Enterprise Incubator Co., Ltd. In the 2-day fair, there were 8,000 participants. The fair arranged 38 buyers to talk with 800 complementary companies for 1,200 talks, reached 400 complementary intentions. Several companies like Taiwan Exhibition Company, Korea Jin Young Acoustic. Co., Ltd., and companies from America had interests in investing in Tianjin. The fair organized special forums, workshops and new product news conference on mobile phone manufacturing industry. 17 distinguished guests made speeches on our country’s mobile phone manufacturing industry status and forward looking, the way for SMS enterprises to enter the procurement system, goods circulation of mobile phones, set up mobile phone supply chain, new product and technology of accessories, with 600 participants. The site coverage was made by30 medium institutes and 45 correspondents, like Xinhua News Agency, Zhongxinshe, Central People’s Broadcasting Station, Science and Technology Newspaper, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Economic Daily, China Guide on High and New Industries, Shanghai Wenhui Newspaper, Beifang Shichang Newspaper, Tianjin Daily, Evening News, Meiri News, Tianjin Youth Newspaper, North Net, Tianjin TV, Tianjin Radio, and Hong Kong Wenhui, Taiwan Electronic Newspaper, New Electron, etc.
At the fair, we held workshops for buyers and complementary companies. The demand and supply parties had free talks and thought the fair was so necessary, providing chances for them to meet, understand, and exchange information, with governmental support and company performance. The Japanese, Korean and Hong Kong people expressed admiration on such an efficient trade fair held by Tianjin soon after the SARS. Ms. Jian Yujing, chief representative of Hong Kong Trade Development Bureau, said, it was so coincident that at this time the “Arrangement of Setting up More Close Economic Relaitons between Hinterland and Hong Kong”, with the tax exemption of 273 kinds commodities of Hong Kong to the mainland of China. The fair was a very nice platform. The representative of Tianjin Sanyo Telecommunication Equipment Co., Ltd. thought, it was very beneficial to present at the fair, getting lots of information, with so large scale, and good impression. The representative of Beijing Zhiyuan Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. thought, the fair was organized well, with wide contact and discussions with many other companies. The exhibit companies thought, the fair was beneficial for the buyers to widen procurement channels, simplify the procedures, reduce the costs, and also beneficial for the domestic companies to adjust and optimize the product structure, increase self quality and technical content, and expand export.

In order to make full use of the region and space advantages of Internet, strengthen understanding and communication of buyers and suppliers, enhance the fair effect, we specially set up the electronic complementary purchase platform（www.eglobalpurchase.com）, providing free the on-line and practical discussion and business matching. On 10 July 2003, the “2003 International Manufacturing (mobile phone) On-line Complementation Fair” was held, breaking the traditional model, promoting the manufacturing enterprises to mix with the global electronic trade chain, increasing bidding efficiency of the manufacturing industry, helping the buyers and suppliers to find out business chances, and making our fair never finished.

All of the exhibition invitation adopted on-line application. The domestic and overseas buyers and suppliers made applications actively. Up to now, there are 1,617 enterprises of domestic and overseas mobile phone manufacturers are kept by our data bank. 636 mobile phone manufacturers have made applications, from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland of China, among which, 32 are national assigned mobile phone manufacturers. Up to now, there are 60,000 person/times visits to our website, among which, 4,000 from abroad, the highest visits was 2,276. Based on Tannin Hotline information, the daily click times of our website created highest record of Tianjin professional websites. As the first professional gala for the domestic mobile phone industry, there were so many participants form mobile phone industry, with notable achievements.
